Work Permit

Every year, more than 300,000 foreign workers come to Canada on Temporary Work Permits. Most foreign workers require a work permit, to enable them to work in Canada on a temporary basis.

Labor Market Impact Assessment(LMIA) bases work permit:

Prior to the issuance of Temporary Work Permit, the Canadian employer wishing to hire a temporary foreign worker may require to apply for and be granted a positive Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) by Employment & Social Development Canada (ESDC), who will confirm the LMIA if they are satisfied that there are no Canadian citizens or permanent residents available to do the job.

Open Work Permit(OWP):

You may be eligible for an open work permit if you:

  • are an international student who graduated from a designated learning institution and are eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program
  • applied for permanent residence in Canada
  • are a dependent family member of someone who applied for permanent residence
  • are the spouse or common-law partner of a skilled worker or international student
  • are a refugee, refugee claimant, protected person or their family member
  • are a temporary resident permit holder
